As Director of Scholarship at the McMaster Centre for Simulation Based Learning, I created a community of practice focused on the challenges of implementing and sustaining simulation based education initiatives. My aim was to provide space for individual simulation education champions, often isolated in their clinical context, to access and interact with the broader community in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Co-Chair of reThink Clinical Reasoning 2022, hosted by MERIT. My aim was to challenge scholars to think beyond the dominant discourses of the clinical reasoning literature and consider the role of context, social justice and technology in shaping patient outcomes. (Co-Chaired by Drs. Sandra Monteiro and Teresa Chan)
As Director of Research and Analysis at Touchstone Institute I guided conversation about the design, purpose and outcomes of clinical competence assessments for health professionals. My aim was to ensure that decision makers* were informed about the consequences of their actions on test validity, data reliability and defensibility of test outcomes. (CNO, CNA, COO, CDO, NPA)*
I contributed to a Department of Medicine initiated working group to address education related issues reported by Internal Medicine residents at McMaster University. My recommendations were incorporated into subsequent departmental decisions to re-evaluate and reallocate faculty and trainees to clinical sites. (Chaired by Dr. Mark Crowther)
I contributed to future planning activities as a member of the Assessment Design Focus Group organized by the Medical Council of Canada. (Chaired by Dr. Kevin Eva)
I contributed to the development of Royal College of Physicians and Suregeon of Canada's Emerging Competencies in the domain of clinical reasoning and the Role of Medical Expert. (Chaired by Dr. Brent Thoma)
